Minimalism. This is Blood Wedding, so far. Each character is reduced to elemental or minimal signs. It's like a Christmas tableaux. A silhouette. Not realism, I would say. Juxtaposed against Ibsen/Wild Duck it is stark and dignified . . . sort of . . . while Wild Duck is banalities (on purpose) much of the time.
So much drama. It's ironic to complain about drama in a drama but it would be nice to read something funny. Witty. Wry. Life is funny, except when it's not. At least life is humorous by contrast to the high seriousness of it. We laugh to relieve the tension.
What we're examining is SO SERIOUS. I understand that life IS serious. Blood Wedding seems, so far, though, like a group of underdeveloped teenagers. The angst, the intensity of their reactions to each other and any domestic event is sustained throughout. Wow. Drama on every line. Can't we all relax a little?
